Yankee Institute Calls on Gov. Lamont to Veto Pay for Striking Workers

On May 8, the General Assembly passed H.B. 5431 that would take unspent money in a fringe benefits account in the Comptroller’s office and award unemployment benefits to striking workers. The bill is now awaiting Gov. Ned Lamont’s approval.

Yankee Institute President Carol Platt Liebau calls on the governor to veto the legislation:

“Governor Ned Lamont should side with taxpayers and veto H.B. 5431. If he gives in to Big Labor, every Connecticut resident will be forced to pay for workers to go on strike. Government is supposed remain neutral in disputes between its citizens, not put a thumb on the scale in favor of one side. The bill is vague and misleading, but it clearly rewards labor unrest and will make it more expensive for families to live in our state or run a business here. Governor Lamont has said he wants to ‘Make it Here’ in Connecticut, and he can demonstrate his commitment to that principle by vetoing bad bills like H.B. 5431.”

This has got to be unconstitutional. but if it did pass the legislature, was signed by the governor and passed the courts muster, I am out of here. just SHUTDOWN my family’s 70 year old company because I am just plain tired of the constant HARRASSMent of Connecticut business by the democrats over my entire life.
