That’s why we’ve started a new series to investigate some of the reasons that the American dream is out of reach in the Nutmeg State. The first chapter focuses on the cost of energy. In 1988, the General Assembly passed a law that forces electricity providers to pay millions more each year for expensive solar and wind-generated electricity, mostly originating outside Connecticut. To remain in business, providers pass on these costs by raising electricity prices on CT households and businesses. This law has created a drag on virtually every facet of the statewide economy, hurting families and small businesses.
