Six Connecticut companies were honored Wednesday for their investments in recruiting, employing and retaining veterans by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
Survival Systems USA, Inc., Eversource Energy, Research and Development Solutions, Inc. (RDSI), United Rentals, Inc., Jackson Ryan Construction Services, Inc., Sonalysts and Eljen Corporation were among the 835 employers nationwide who received the “Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing (HIRE) Vets Medallion Award.”
The honor is the only federal-level veterans’ employment award for employers, recognizing small businesses, nonprofit organizations and large companies for their excellence in leadership when it comes to promoting veterans’ employment. During the Nov. 9 virtual presentation, U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh said, “Our veterans look like America. They‘re highly skilled. They bring proven experience, work ethic, adaptability and leadership to all of our workplaces, all across the country.”
He added, “In a supportive environment, they become well rounded leaders in our community, in business, nonprofits and in government. And we know that getting supportive opportunities in a place makes a huge difference for their success in their transition out of the military.”
According to DOL, more than 200,000 men and women transition from American military service to civilian life every year.
