“As Comptroller Lembo prepares to leave his post at year’s end, it’s worth remembering he used his 11 years in office to chalk up several key wins for Connecticut taxpayers.
He was the driving force behind Connecticut’s volatility cap, which has shielded billions of dollars from spendthrift politicians, and he pushed overdue reforms to control the state workforce’s exorbitant retiree healthcare costs. Comptroller Lembo put the state’s ineffective economic development programs under the microscope, and his “Open Connecticut” project implemented many of Yankee Institute’s recommendations to make government more transparent.
Although we didn’t always see eye-to-eye, Mr. Lembo deserves praise and thanks for everything he did to keep more money in taxpayers’ wallets. We wish him and his family the very best as he steps away from public life.”
