Yankee Institute Statement: Yankee Institute Shines Light on Government with New Database

Yankee Institute launches the state’s only comprehensive public union contract database

Transparent government is accountable government. The success of Yankee Institute’s CT Sunlight Project highlights how much Connecticut’s people want to understand the inner workings of a government that claims to act on their behalf.

Yankee Institute is committed to helping them do so. Today, we act on that commitment by unveiling a unique new database, which is designed to offer information on a topic that governs a substantial portion of state policy but has, up to now, been shrouded in secrecy.

Our new database is the first of its kind. It houses every state, municipal, and regional collective bargaining agreement in Connecticut, ensuring both that union members can access their own contracts — and that everyone can access the rules that govern their schools, police departments, towns, and state.

We ask all municipalities, cities, and regional districts to make their contracts available to the public in an easy-to-access, digital, searchable format. Likewise, if your contract was renewed July 1, 2020, we encourage you to share that new contract with us. You can submit a contract to us by emailing Meghan@YankeeInstitute.org

When we work together toward fair and open government, reform is possible and our beautiful Connecticut will prosper.
